Thursday Night League – Season Two, Round Four

Daytona Sandown Park

Thursday Night League returned to Daytona Sandown Park for Round Four, with the drivers back out on our Grand Prix layout for the second time this season. Drama has filled the opening three rounds with all the more expected in Round Four, our drivers stepped onto the track with plenty of anticipation.

SODI

In the SODI class Peter Tilev took pole position with a 51.886 ahead of Diogo Leal in second. Owen Prince lined up third ahead of DMAX regular Luca Nik, who rounded out the second row.

Tilev got away the best at the start, managing to hold on to his lead early on. Leal hanging on in second on the opening laps, maintaining the gaps between fellow drivers at around a second, until Tilev broke away on lap seven. Leal then found himself in no man’s land, with the gaps growing either side of him. Nik and Steve Hannon would fight it out for third, the two locked in battle for ten whole laps. The gap growing no bigger than four-tenths the entire time. But after 22 laps completed, Peter Tilev crossed the line to take the win. Steve Hannon taking P2 with Luka Nik completing the podium. Carlos Roberts took the win in the Heavyweight class. With James Krestovnikof and Monty Richards rounding out the podium.

DMAX

The battle for pole position in the DMAX class went the way of Oscar Wilson with a 46.333. Carson Fernandes lined up alongside him in second. Row two was made up of Freddie Burden and Dominic Szczepanski, the pair separated by only 0.036.

In the final race, Wilson got away well at the front – avoiding the opening lap drama behind to pull a gap. Fernandes, from the front row, was spun round and dropped all the way back to 15^th, the offending driver picking up a penalty for the contact. Despite the drama, Burden got through to claim second. He was followed closely by Max Miller, with Burden not able to break away until lap 15. Fernandes climbed his way back up the order, gaining 11 positions to finish in 4^th. Oscar Wilson would take the win by 12 seconds, with Freddie Burden having to settle for 2^nd. Max Miller took the flag in 3^rd just half a second ahead of Carson Fernandes. However, Wilson failed to make the minimum weight promoting Burden to the win. Miller and Fernandes also found themselves promoted to 2^nd and 3^rd. In the Heavyweights, Warren Gomm took a commanding ahead of Mike Bennett in 2^nd and Zack Llewellyn-Morris in 3^rd.

Round Four brought the drama and epic racing of Thursday Night League here at Sandown Park. Drivers in both the SODI and DMAX divisions put on a show a in their respective classes. The season continues on our Alternate layout here at Daytona Sandown Park in Round Five on the 2^ndof October.

Daytona Milton Keynes

Drivers poured into Milton Keynes to take on a cold track for Round Four of Thursday Night League. The season is ramping up, with contenders for championship positions beginning to emerge and those in their wake starting to feel the pressure.

SODI

The SODI class got off to a good start- qualifying was led by Mark Smith, Adam Pughe, and returning SuperChamps driver Matthew Crowther. The Heavyweight drivers were led by David Rollins managing to outpace a considerable about of Lightweight drivers, he was follows up by Richard Danby and Ben Swabey.

The race started off with an exciting first lap consisting mainly of Charlie Csepreghi flying forwards from 12^th on the grid overtaking almost half the field before the lap ended. Chris Mackay also showed incredible lap skills climbing just as fast as Csepreghi.

Towards the end of the race the battle was on between Barry Morris and Mackay to get onto the podium, with Pughe well and truly settled in first in the Light category. Rollins saw no competition in the Heavy race flying past three Light drivers, Danby also followed suit overtaking two Light drivers.

The final podium saw Pughe on the top step, Csepreghi in second and Morris in third for the Lights. The Heavies were demolished by Rollins and Danby, with Swabey holding his third spot against the field.

DMAX

The DMAX’s took to the track ready for their qualifying, with the Lightweight class being fronted by Daytona Milton Keynes regular Adam Hawtin. Dawid Sniezko, Julia Stankowiak and James King pushing towards pole just behind. Heavyweight driver extraordinaire, Ashley Mayston-King took the fastest Heavy lap with Robert Bannister second on the grid and James Peace third up.

The race erupted with fierce battles, especially in the Heavyweight class as Peace fought to push past Mayston-King – managing to overtake him and a couple of Light drivers in the mid stages. The Light field was topped by seasoned Milton Keynes professionals creating an amazing spectacle of racing to watch between Hawtin, Sniezko, Stankowiak and King.

In the end Hawtin held his own against King who took the second place trophy and Sniezko just managed to take Stankowiak to bring home third. Peace held off Mayston-King in the final laps of the race taking the win. Mayston-King held his own against the field secured second, with Bannister following closely in the third spot.

Daytona Tamworth

The sun was shining for the fourth round of

Thursday

Night

League

at Daytona Tamworth. Two absolutely packed grids were set to compete over the evening in what was going to be an intriguing round.

N35-ST

Charlie Walmsley-Ryde

blew the field away in qualifying, putting it on pole by a whopping six tenths of a second ahead of

Dylan Morrall

Morrall

was by no means going to have a straightforward time, however, as he had

Dave Sumner

hot on his heels in third – we were expecting a good battle between the two heading into the race.

There were no surprises as far as the race was concerned, as

Walmsley-Ryde

strolled to a victory of nearly eleven seconds at the end of the race, completing the grand slam by leading every single lap of the race and taking the fastest lap point as well. Our battle for second materialised as expected, with

Sumner

and

Morrall

being separated by just five-tenths of a second at the line,

Sumner

finishing ahead despite his inferior fastest lap, a superb defence that saw him win the Heavyweight class.

Daniel Santos Piedrabuena

completed the Lightweight podium, with

Brandon Gathercole

and

Mckenzie Senior

joining

Sumner

on the Heavyweight podium.

DMAX

In similar style to the N35 qualifying, one driver stood out from the rest in the DMAX category. This time it was championship hopeful

Ben Foden

, who's 55.630 was enough to secure pole by five tenths of a second ahead of

Fin Imber

In the race,

Foden

strolled away – albeit not as successfully as

Walmsley-Ryde

in the race previous. His winning margin ended up being a touch over six seconds, with the fastest lap of the race as well. With

Lucas Gathercole

in second, the most intriguing battle was between

Will Kenny

and

Jayden Giles

for third position, only five-tenths between them at the line.

Kenny

got the better of them, rounding out the podium. In the Heavyweights,

Sonny Zacharias

took victory by five seconds ahead of

Luke Mallard

, who coped very well to fend off

Mark Rollinson

, who returns to the championship for the first time in Season Two.

Both championships are starting to develop nicely at this stage of the season in

League

InKart – Season Two, Round One

Daytona Tamworth

Inkart

returned to Daytona Tamworth, with a brand new type of kart being on display in the new Junior N35 class. Many faces were returning, however, in what was set to be a superb round of racing.

In the Cadet class,

Hugo Macmillan

and

Freya Lally

both finished with 20 points after the heats, making up the front row for the final. They were followed by

Joseph Tomlinson

with 18 points, who would be good competition as they headed into the A-Final. As the Junior N35 class,

Zachary Smith

took pole with 20 points.

Tyler Shanks

and

Rocco Jackson

followed closely with 19 and 18 points respectively.

In the B-Final,

Seamus Soon

pushed hard to try and take victory ahead of

Archie Beswick

, but was ultimately unsuccessful – falling agonisingly behind promotion by five-tenths of a second.

Rosco Rowe

made up the rest of the podium, a really good drive ahead of

Rhys Kings

to secure some silverware. Promotion was won by

Cristiano Guedes

in the Cadet class, in a wonderfully dominant fashion ahead of

Rhys Kings

and

Greyson Scandrett

The finale of the day saw

Zachary Smith

take victory ahead of

Tyler Shanks

, but the former lap record holder actually had his best time beaten – with

Shanks

using the slipstream to his advantage and setting the fastest lap ever around Daytona Tamworth – a 59.126. They both had a very decent gap ahead of reigning champion

Reuben Potter

, who was 9 seconds behind – still scoring a good amount of points for this early stage int he season. As for the Cadets,

Freya Lally

took victory with the fastest lap of the race, comfortably ahead of

Jack Mills

and

Hugo Macmillan

InKart

returns in a few weeks time, where we will take on a brand new layout in the 'Cup' format.
