Daytona Championships (13th-19th) June

InKart – Round Six

Daytona Sandown Park

Round Six of InKart saw drivers split across three Qualifying groups before progressing into the newly established Pre-B, B and A-Finals. While Qualifying determined where drivers would start the latter stages of the day, the finals themselves produced the most important battles as both the Cadet and Junior classes fought for silverware.

The Juniors produced strong pace across all three groups. Dexter Roest led Group One ahead of Milan Pillay and Jack Candasamy, while Sebastian Mejer topped Group Two with the fastest Junior lap across the entire field. Raphael Villanueva headed Group Three from Lucas Fasabi Rios and Jason Bond. In the Cadets, Jack Monnier topped Group One, Alexander Nechev led Group Two and Alexander Pecorella headed Group Three, setting up a competitive set of Finals across the class.

The Junior Pre-B Final delivered close racing throughout. Leo Ingarfield emerged victorious after holding off Freddie Lawrence and Bethan Preston, with the leading trio remaining closely matched for much of the race. Leo Hyde-Vaamonde, Avery Speller and Maxx Nikolov were all involved in the battles immediately behind. Penalties influenced the outcome, with Jason Bond penalised for contact with Maxx Nikolov and Clement Coiquaud receiving a penalty following contact with Blayden Viljoen. In the Cadet Pre-B Final, the field remained tightly packed as drivers battled for every position. Lawson Townsend received a penalty for breaking formation before the start, while Alessandro Aiolfi was penalised following contact with Andrew Totskyy.

The Junior B-Final produced one of the closest finishes of the day as Kyle Rosario secured victory by just 0.301 seconds over Callum Law after a race-long battle at the front. Arno Nurjanyan completed the podium after remaining within striking distance throughout. George Tappy and Rafael Beattie-Mckerrow remained involved in the fight behind, while Leo Ingarfield continued his strong day by securing sixth place after his earlier Pre-B Final victory. The Cadet B-Final belonged to Joshua Puttick, who led home Diogo Dinis and Ethan Davis. Taayin Roy and Lorenzo Zarella completed the top five after a competitive race throughout the field. Several penalties reshaped the final order. Joseph Lambourne received a penalty following contact with Barnaby Ford, while multiple drivers were penalised for racing under yellow flags. Alessandro Aiolfi also received further penalties following separate incidents.

The Junior A-Final brought together the fastest drivers from across the three Qualifying groups and produced a fitting conclusion to the day. Sebastian Mejer backed up his strong Qualifying performance by taking victory ahead of Dexter Roest and Jack Candasamy. Behind the podium, Lucas Fasabi Rios secured fourth place ahead of Hadi Chaudry and Jason Bond. Milan Pillay and Leo Betts remained firmly in contention throughout, while Kyle Rosario completed an impressive climb into the top ten after progressing through the B-Final. The Cadet A Final saw Jenson Fuller take victory ahead of Jack Dodgson and Alexander Pecorella. Jack Monnier and Jacob Pratt completed the top five after a closely contested race. Several incidents affected the final classifications. Alexander Nechev received a penalty following contact with Alexander Montgomery, Joshua Puttick was penalised after contact with Willow Wright, Hadi Chaudry received a penalty for contact with Lucas Fasabi Rios, and Raphael Villanueva was penalised following an incident involving Leo Betts.

The day ultimately belonged to Sebastian Mejer and Jenson Fuller, who claimed the Junior and Cadet A-Final victory respectively. Kyle Rosario’s victory in the Junior B-Final before progressing into the A-Final stood out as one of the strongest performances of the day, while Joshua Puttick added a Cadet B-Final win to an already competitive afternoon. Across all three divisions of Finals, close battles, penalties, and recovery drives proved decisive. Qualifying determined where drivers started their day, but Round Seven was ultimately decided by race craft and consistency once the finals got underway.

InKart – Round Seven

Daytona Milton Keynes

The first Qualifying group saw a tightly contested Junior session, with Jack Dowding setting the benchmark lap of 1:23.362. Ryan Cafferkey was his closest challenger on a 1:23.544, just under two tenths behind, while Theo Maskell completed the top three with a 1:23.897. In the Cadets, the fight for top spot was even closer. Teddy Mullan secured fastest time with a 1:25.071, edging out Sean Chan by just 0.017 seconds after Chan recorded a 1:25.088. Charlie Marden rounded out the leading trio with a 1:25.918.

The second Qualifying group produced the fastest Junior lap of the evening as Gillen Townsend posted an impressive 1:23.164. Alvin Tsz Ho Tai was just over a tenth behind on a 1:23.279, while Toby Meredith secured third in the group with a 1:23.912. In the Cadet session, Josh Pink topped the timesheets with a 1:25.020, the quickest Cadet lap overall. Leo Sidthorpe followed with a 1:25.231, while Jed Khoza completed the top three with a 1:26.278.

The Junior B-Final belonged to Nicolae Doncila, who produced a commanding drive to take victory by over nine seconds. Behind him, an entertaining battle for second place unfolded between Rafe Murray and Baxter Hartley. Murray ultimately held on to claim second, with Hartley completing the podium in third. The Cadet B-Final was another dominant display, this time from Ernest Sztuba. Sztuba controlled the race from the front and crossed the line almost a full lap ahead of Aston Downer in second place. Alfie Winrow secured third to complete the podium finishers.

The Junior A-Final saw Jack Dowding convert his strong Qualifying pace into a comprehensive victory. Dowding crossed the line eight seconds clear of Gillen Townsend, who drove to a comfortable second-place finish. Another eight seconds further back, Ryan Cafferkey secured the final podium position in third. The Cadet A-Final provided one of the stories of the night. Having won the B-Final earlier in the evening, Ernest Sztuba continued his momentum after promotion to the A-Final and delivered a superb performance to finish second overall. However, nobody could stop Teddy Mullan, who capped off an excellent evening by taking victory. Leo Sidthorpe completed the podium in third after another strong run.

Thursday Night League – Round Eleven

Daytona Sandown Park

Round Eleven marked the penultimate round of the Thursday Night League season at Daytona Sandown Park, with drivers well aware that a strong result in Round Eleven could make all the difference heading into the finale.

Jessika McIntosh laid down an impressive lap in Qualifying to secure pole position in the SODI Lights, narrowly edging out Dylan Hourican by just 0.073 seconds. Samuel Barnaville completed the top three, while championship leader Rufus Sessions lined up fifth. The Sprint Race produced one of the closest finishes of the season. Hourican quickly put himself in position to challenge and eventually emerged at the front of the field, taking victory by just 0.153 seconds from McIntosh after twenty minutes of intense racing. Behind the leading pair, Sessions produced a measured drive from fifth on the grid to finish third. Barnaville remained in the fight throughout and crossed the line fourth, while Jude Simpkins completed the top five after climbing three places from his starting position. Further back, the midfield battle remained tightly packed, with only a handful of seconds separating several drivers after twenty minutes of racing. In the Heavy class, Elliott Gregory backed up his Qualifying performance with a commanding victory. Tim Love and Jay Peters completed the podium after a closely fought race, while championship leader Louie Paterson finished fourth. Gregory’s victory was his first of the season and came against a strong field, while Love’s second place keeps his momentum going heading into the final round.

The DMAX Qualifying session was equally competitive. Jack Redfern secured pole position with a superb lap, finishing just ahead of Freddie Burden and Jonathan Fuchsel. Championship leader Adam Palmer had more work to do after Qualifying in P8. Redfern converted pole into victory with a controlled drive at the front of the field. Fuchsel stayed within striking distance throughout the race but ultimately had to settle for second, while Palmer delivered one of the drives of the night by climbing from eighth on the grid to finish third. The battle behind the podium positions remained close throughout the race. Thomas Williams and Callum Bendelow rounded out the top five, while several drivers spent much of the race running nose-to-tail in a tightly packed train. In the DMAX Heavies class, Thanos Tzevelekakis topped Qualifying, but the Sprint Race belonged to Mikhail Sitnikov. Sitnikov worked his way to the front and secured a crucial victory ahead of Warren Gomm and Tzevelekakis. Alfie Shrubb entered the evening leading the championship but could only manage fifth in the race, while Sitnikov’s victory and Gomm’s second place ensured the title fight tightened further ahead of the season finale.

Round Eleven delivered exactly what you would expect from a penultimate round of this championship. Several drivers strengthened their championship positions, while others ensured the fight will continue all the way to the final race of the season. With one round remaining, every championship is still up for grabs.

Daytona Tamworth

More fine weather greeted us for the penultimate round of Thursday Night League at Daytona Tamworth. With the potential for championship dreams to come alive or be broken, a stunning evening of racing was all but assured.

Just a second and a half separated the Lightweight podium in the N35-ST class, with Tyler Sharp marching to victory at the end of the twenty-one laps. Dramatically, Tom Webster saw his title dreams drift further from his grasp with a third-place finish, crossing the line an agonising four tenths behind rival Charlie Walmsley-Ryde. This put Walmsley-Ryde into the driving seat for championship heading into the final race of the season. As for the Heavyweights, Chris Morrall took a dominant victory of approximately seven seconds ahead of Daniel Santos PiedrabuenaMorrall also took the fastest lap of the race. They were joined on the podium by championship veteran Tim Avery.

Few were surprised to see Lucas Gathercole at the top of the order in the DMAX Lightweight race, with a two second gap to the second-placed driver Ben FodenFoden took the fastest lap despite narrowly missing out on victory, and would be glad to secure an extra point at such a crucial point in the season. The final podium place was contested by the recently DMAX assessed Jayden Steatham, who despite his inexperience in the machinery was well in the fight for the final podium position. He unfortunately missed out to the highly experienced Cordell Hayles who was seven tenths ahead at the line. In the Heavyweights, Finlay Stewart stood out from the rest, fourteen seconds ahead of Brandon Gathercole in a thoroughly dominant performance. Chris Drane was third, just a second behind the top two.
