masters league – Round Four

Daytona Sandown Park

Masters League Season Two returned to Daytona Sandown Park for Round Four, with the SODI and DMAX Interweight and Heavyweight classes contesting qualifying followed by a Sprint Race in challenging conditions.

Diogo Leal set the Interweight qualifying benchmark, finishing half a second clear of Ash Chivers. Daytona Sandown Park regular Reece Harris qualified third to place himself among the leading contenders for the race. The contest developed into a three-way fight between Chivers, Harris and Anwar Beroual Smith. Little separated them throughout, and all three remained in contention as the race approached the chequered flag. Beroual Smith ultimately emerged with the victory, while Chivers secured second and Harris completed the podium. Only 1.1 seconds covered the leading trio at the finish. Martin Strutt mastered the difficult qualifying conditions to secure SODI Heavyweight pole position with a 1:15.4. Strutt’s performance earned him the best possible starting position, but no Heavyweight race results were included in the supplied report.

Steve Hannon produced a strong DMAX qualifying performance to claim Interweight pole position. He finished more than 0.4 seconds clear of Tom Brown, while William Jonkler completed the leading three. Hannon converted pole into a commanding race victory, establishing an advantage of more than 12.5 seconds by the chequered flag. Brown retained second place, while Vivek Bhalla progressed into the podium positions and finished third. Fresh from his SODI Interweight victory, Beroual Smith carried his momentum into DMAX qualifying. He secured Heavyweight pole position, with Chivers 0.7 seconds behind in second and championship leader Warren Gomm third. Beroual Smith completed an excellent meeting by converting pole into his second victory of the evening. Chivers followed him home in second, while Gomm secured another valuable championship result in third. The Heavyweight podium therefore remained unchanged from qualifying, with Beroual Smith, Chivers and Gomm occupying the same three positions at the chequered flag. Beroual Smith’s victories across two different classes provided the defining performance of Round Four, while Hannon’s margin made him the most commanding winner covered by the supplied results.

The final Group Two Heat brought Fuller into another close fight, this time against Jack Monnier. Monnier prevailed by 0.3 seconds, leaving Fuller second and Tonev third. The Cadet B-Final produced another closely contested finish with promotion to the A-Final at stake. Ejay Barrs-James secured the victory and the final place on the main grid, defeating Logan Peach by 0.5 seconds. George Tarakanov completed the podium a further 1.5 seconds back. Fuller and Pratt resumed their earlier contest at the front of the A-Final. Once again, little separated them, but Fuller held on to secure the Round Three victory by just 0.2 seconds. Behind them, Barrs-James delivered one of the meeting’s strongest recovery drives. Starting from the back after earning promotion through the B-Final, he charged through the field to finish third. The result completed a rapid turnaround from B-Final winner to A-Final podium finisher.

Alfie Gordon claimed the opening Group One Heat ahead of Samuel Baker. Beau Grant secured third after a close battle with Theo Mark, who finished fourth. In Group Two, Jason Bond immediately established himself at the front by winning Heat One. Bethan Preston followed in second, while Jack Holt completed the podium in third. Baker took control when Group One returned for Heat Two. He established a lead of more than seven seconds to defeat Gordon, while Mark improved from fourth in the opening race to finish third. Bond produced an equally commanding performance in the final Group Two Heat, securing his second victory by more than 7.4 seconds. The closer contest developed behind him as Callum Law held off Holt by just 0.2 seconds to retain second. The Junior B-Final offered one final route into the main event, but Sebastian Van Wyk left little doubt over who would progress. Van Wyk won by more than five seconds to earn promotion, with Alessandro Aiolfi second and Avery Speller less than a second further back in third. After winning both Group Two Heats, Bond completed his unbeaten meeting in the A-Final. Baker kept him under pressure until the chequered flag, but Bond held on to claim the Round Three victory by less than 0.3 seconds. Gordon completed a consistent meeting in third, finishing five seconds behind the leading pair after adding an A-Final podium to his Heat One victory and Heat Two runner-up result.

In Group Two, Charlie Marden set the fastest time with a 1:22.664. Josh Pink qualified second on a 1:24.023, followed by Ethan Mountford with a 1:24.248. Service’s lap remained the quickest Cadet time across both groups, leaving him in the strongest position heading into the Finals. The Cadet B-Final belonged to Vladimir Patapas, who produced the largest winning margin of the meeting. Patapas finished 14 seconds ahead of Oakley Foord to secure promotion onto the back of the A-Final grid. Alfie Winrow completed the podium in third. Service converted his qualifying pace into victory in the A-Final, establishing a five-second advantage over Chan by the chequered flag. Gillen Townshend led Group One Junior qualifying with a 1:20.289. Jack Dowding finished only 0.176 seconds behind on a 1:20.465, while Hugo Brabin qualified third with a 1:20.927. The Group Two session produced an even closer contest. Teddy Mullan set a 1:20.773 to defeat Leo Sidthorpe by just 0.053 seconds. Rayaan Malik completed the leading three with a 1:21.280. Townshend’s Group One time remained the quickest Junior lap across the two sessions. In the Junior B-Final, Lucas Constantiniou secured victory and promotion to the A-Final. Leo Foster remained within reach but crossed the line one second behind, while Austin Lawrence completed the podium in third. Townshend completed his strong meeting by converting the overall qualifying benchmark into an A-Final victory. He crossed the line five seconds ahead of Sidthorpe. The closest fight developed over the remaining podium positions. Mullan finished only 0.3 seconds behind Sidthorpe but had to settle for third, reversing their order from Group Two qualifying. Service and Townshend therefore converted the fastest Cadet and Junior qualifying times into the two Round Three A-Final victories.

daytona Tamworth

InKart returned to Daytona Tamworth for Round Three, with the Cadet and Junior grids facing the new Alternate layout. Its added chicane presented a fresh challenge before qualifying established the starting order for two closely contested Finals.

Greyson Scandrett began the meeting with a commanding qualifying performance, setting a 50.131 to secure pole position by 1.354 seconds. Oliver Wagg qualified second, while Arthur Lloyd took third. Despite starting fourth, Fehn Thomas emerged as Scandrett’s closest challenger in the Final. The pair remained closely matched throughout, but Scandrett held on to take victory by just 0.271 seconds. Thomas demonstrated his outright pace by recording the fastest lap with a 50.130. That was 0.001 seconds quicker than Scandrett’s pole time and narrowly faster than the race winner’s best effort. A second close battle developed over the final podium position. Harrison Corbett secured third, holding off Lloyd by only 0.261 seconds. Lloyd therefore finished fourth after beginning the race from third on the grid. Scandrett converted a dominant qualifying advantage into victory, but the narrow winning margin and Thomas’ fastest lap showed how closely matched the leading pair became during the Final.

Hugo Macmillan set the Junior qualifying benchmark with a 50.215, beating George Glossopp to pole position by 0.228 seconds. Glossopp overturned that order during the 30-lap Final. After a closely matched race, he defeated Macmillan by 1.099 seconds to claim the Round Three victory. Their outright pace was similarly close, with Glossopp’s fastest lap only 0.006 seconds quicker than Macmillan’s best. The fight for the remaining podium position brought two more drivers into contention. Alfie Campbell finished just 0.408 seconds behind Macmillan to secure third and recorded the fastest lap of the entire race with a 50.055. Oliver Benton narrowly missed out on the podium, crossing the line only 0.138 seconds behind Campbell in fourth. The cumulative margins left the entire leading four separated by just 1.645 seconds at the chequered flag. Scandrett and Glossopp therefore claimed the Cadet and Junior victories, while Thomas and Campbell earned the respective fastest laps during two highly competitive Finals.

Daytona Tamworth

A greasy circuit greeted two grids of drivers at Daytona Tamworth for Round Six of Thursday Night League Season Two. With the campaign approaching its halfway point, the results carried increasing significance for the developing championship contests.

In the N35-ST Lightweight class, Tyler Sharp initially struggled to establish an advantage at the front, but found greater pace as the race progressed. He eventually pulled clear to secure victory by 8.390 seconds over Jaysse Radu. Reigning champion Charlie Walsmley-Ryde completed the podium in third, although much of the class’s closest action developed immediately behind him. Rhys Atkins-Bond recorded the fastest Lightweight lap with a 56.897 while mounting a recovery towards a group containing Joshua Moate, Jayden Steatham and James Stevenson. Their fight intensified during the closing stages, but Atkins-Bond received a five-second penalty for a bump-and-pass at turn four on the penultimate lap. The penalty halted his recovery and demoted him to seventh in the final classification. Dylan Morrall controlled the N35-ST Heavyweight contest and secured the class victory. Morrall also recorded the fastest Heavyweight lap with a 57.699, completing a maximum-points performance. Daniel Santos Piedrabuena followed a few seconds behind in second, continuing his regular run of podium finishes alongside Morrall. Declan Searson claimed the final podium position in third.

The opening phase of the DMAX Lightweight race developed into a direct fight between Lucas Gathercole and the previous round’s winner, Reuben Potter.
