SANDOWN HOSTS EPIC DMAX SEASON FINALE

Daytona Sandown Park hosted an epic day of racing on Saturday (17th November) to bring the 2018 Daytona DMAX Championships to a fitting close. With 140 drivers taking part across the six classes, the Surrey circuit saw a busy day of fast, exciting racing – and some of the closest qualifying ever for the enduro races.

First off the grid were the Light Enduro class, with 27 drivers battling the slightly greasy tarmac as they aimed for the front of the grid – in the end it was Max O’Shaughnessy who took Pole with 45.175secs – but Max had 12 drivers within a second of his lap time. He converted Pole to a win and the 2018 Light Endurance Championship with a champion’s drive to win by 26 seconds from Khan and O’Neill.

The Inter Enduro grid saw 31 drivers – and the top 18 split by less than a second. Hackworth took Pole by 21 thousandth’s of second from Jenman, with Trundley just 5 thousandths further back. In the race, it was Jenman who took top honours winning by 7 seconds after an hour on track from Hackworth and Wattis took his first podium finish in third.

The Heavy Enduro qualifying saw Tarik Almou on Pole, with an identical laptime (46.433s) to Dean Walker, whilst Hirani was just 71 thousandths behind them. As the chequered fell, Alma held Walker off for the win with Witney joining them on the podium and Holliday winning yet another Super Heavy trophy.

The Afternoon saw the Heats Championships conclude with exciting racing throughout the qualifiers and the class finals. Sam Hampshire took the Lights Heats win, from Khan and Brunton, whilst Bennett won the Heavy Heats Final from Pritchard (who secured the Championship) and Almou. The Inter Heats Final saw Trundley win the race and the championship after Alcock’s sporting gesture gave Trundley back the front row after a kart issue on the parade lap.

The championship awards dinner will be at Daytona Milton Keynes on Saturday 8th December but spaces are limited. Please call Mark on 03303327870 to book asap to avoid disappointment.
