Four-year-old prodigy trains with F2 driver at Daytona Tamworth

Birmingham's youngest karting talent, Raef Virdee, gets an unforgettable coaching session with F1 reserve driver Frederik Vesti

Last week, four-year-old Raef Virdee from Birmingham experienced a dream opportunity at Daytona Tamworth. The aspiring Formula One driver trained with Frederik Vesti, Mercedes F1 reserve and Formula 2 driver, in an event organised by Raef's coach, Harry Darby.

BBC Midlands Today captured the special session, interviewing Raef, who expressed his love for speed and his ambition: “I want to be a Formula One driver and win the world championship.” The young racer even managed to overtake Vesti, who remarked on Raef’s promising future: “He’s got a bit of an advantage, starting so young - I didn't get into a kart until I was eight!”

Raef's journey is already well underway. Practicing on his own simulator at home, he’s also met racing icons like Anthony Hamilton at Goodwood, where he received valuable advice. As he heads toward competing against peers, Raef is already honing the skills that could make him a future star in motorsport.
