Sandown Park S2 SuperChamps: A New & Three Returning Champions

Sunday 28th July - SuperChamps Finale

VIEW FINAL CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS

A glorious sunny Sunday saw the return of SuperChamps for the season finale at Daytona Sandown Park. Plenty of Drivers awaited their final opportunity to fight for the Championship in the Heats format, taking place on the Alternate layout.

The SODI Lightweight heats saw championship leader Jules Larkin take a win in heat two and a solid finish in heat one, his main competitor Jack O’Neil taking a heat one win and second in heat two. Jack Redfern joined the two drivers near the front of the grid with strong finishes across both heats, in preparation for a showdown in the final.

In the SODI Heavyweights,  we saw a variety of contenders with Rafael Blanco-Bush taking a heat one win followed by a heat two second place finish, placing him as favourite for the Heavyweight final. Tom Brown and Reece Harris were also alongside some of the most competitive Heavyweights continuing their championship charge.

The finals saw an immensely close battle between the drivers in both classes. Jack O’Neil took the race win with a blisteringly consistent pace, the only driver to break into the 50 second lap time, beating championship leader Larkin Jules by six seconds. Less than three seconds behind Larkin placed Jack Redfern in third, amidst a closely contested and at times chaotic final. The drivers gave it their all for the final round, battling out in huge packs.

In terms of the Heavyweights, Blanco-Bush and Tom Brown fought to the end with Blanco-Bush taking home the final race win. Reece Harris joined the two on the podium with a fantastic drive, navigating the other drivers and assisting his hopes for the championship win once all the final scores were tallied.

And the winners are...

In an intense conclusion to the SODI SuperChamps season, Jules Larkin narrowly bested former InKart champion Ellis McKenzie, followed by Jack Redfern in third. An incredibly close finish for the trio, each having fantastic individual moments across the season, with the final being no exception.

The SODI Heavyweights saw the legendary Reece Harris retain his championship, his fourth at Daytona Sandown Park, finishing ahead of the effervescent Rafael Blanco-Bush in second and Nathan King in third. This was a  great final round for all drivers to end off an incredible campaign, and the most competitive Heavyweight SODI seasons we have seen.

Over to the DMAX

DMAX drivers in both Light and Heavyweights prepared themselves for an incredibly competitive final on the fast-paced alternate layout. In the DMAX Lightweights, Luka Nik, Steve Hannon & Archie Bullard were set to battle it out to determine the final standings, and in the Heavyweights there was set to be a four-way podium showdown between Tom Brown, Tristan Buirski, Andreas Demetriades and William Tidnam – the latter of whom looks to be the favourite for the title after four immaculate rounds this season.

Championship leader Archie Bullard saw a complete sweep across both heats, with two heat wins showcasing his trademark untouchable pace and consistency. Luka Nik and Steve Hannon joined him in the top three as heat one concluded, with most of the drivers behind showing their affinity with the layout.  Hannon followed suit with remarkable consistency, achieving a further second place finish in heat two, placing him on the front row alongside Bullard in the final.

In the Heavyweights, Tidnam and Brown once again demonstrated their talent racing head-to-head and fought fiercely across both heats. Tidnam swept heat one with an eight-second gap to Brown in second, followed by Demetriades in third - who continues his improvement trajectory.

Heat two for the Heavyweights saw a reversal in the lead, as Tom Brown took his turn to dominate a heat, beating the other drivers by just under two seconds leading from start to finish. Demetriades followed suit in second, and podium contender Tristan Buirski finished in third place, less than five seconds behind Brown. It was an epic battle across the heat with an incredible overtakes on various points across the circuit.

The DMAX Heavyweight final saw the battle of the two titans, Tidnam and Brown, fighting for the championship, narrowly ahead of Buirski and Demetriades. Tidnam got away cleanly and led the pack through the first few corners, before running away with the championship, taking the race win by an impressive eight seconds. Buirski collected P2 in the final and Brown took home third place, beating Demetriades after an early move through turn three.

The DMAX Lightweights final saw another impressive Archie Bullard victory, as he added his third back-to-back SuperChamps title to his trophy collection.
