Daytona hosts the HerdABOUTMK Raceday

Daytona Milton Keynes resembled a dairy farm on Sunday as Daisy The Daytona Cow welcomed the entire HerdAboutMK Herd for the HerdAboutMk Butter Cup.

We have been delighted to be a part of the HerdAboutMk Charity Initiative this year as Milton Keynes celebrates  its 50th birthday. Set up as a New Town in 1967, Milton Keynes was famous for its concrete cows and the HerdaboutMK Project celebrates this with 50 local companies each sponsoring their own cow at a series of events throughout the area in 2017 – and Sunday saw one of the biggest events of the year as all the cows came to Daytona – and their owners raced in the HerdAboutMK Butter Cup!

With over 100 drivers competing in a series of qualifying heats and all the teams racing in two 30 minute endurance races to round off the day, Daytona Milton Keynes was full to bursting as the herd of cows were joined by 100’s of spectators who cheered on the local businesses as they raced around the International Circuit at Daytona.

Following practice laps, the teams competed in a series of 24 qualifying heats, with 15 karts in each – the teams’ total scores dictated whether they qualified for the Wooden Spoon Race (for the bottom 14 teams) or the Butter Cup A Final (for the top 15 teams). Competition throughout the heats was fierce with teams eagerly awaiting the updated team leaderboard after each race.

Off track, the drivers and spectators could mingle with the herd and enjoyed hospitality in and around the Daytona Pavilion – with a tasty barbecue for the 280 attendees and unlimited soft drinks throughout the day – whilst non-drivers were also able to enjoy alcoholic drinks from the bar.
