Junior Sprint League: FINAL ROUND!
Before our final round of Junior Sprint League got underway here at Daytona Sandown Park there were 3 drivers that were in contention for the title. Ellis McKenzie was leading the championship in a relatively comfortable position but the battle for second and third was immensely close between Soloman Adeniji and Oliver Bush separated by just a few points heading into this final round with both drivers knowing they needed strong showings to take the 2nd step on the podium away from each other. All season long these two had been in a epic battle and it all came down to a lovely sunny afternoon here in Esher.
As qualifying wrapped up it was Leo Edger lining up on pole position with Ollie Peters joining him on the front row. George Pitch had a strong showing in 3rd and this left all of our championship contenders out of the top 3 on the grid. Solomon brought his kart home in 4th, Harry Pickles in 5th and Ellis Mckenzie in 6th followed closely behind by Oliver Bush in 7th. David Szucs-Farkas finished our grid up in 8th.
As we got underway Ellis made a incredible start and took 4 positions in the first corner of the track! Ending up in 2nd place as they came up to us in race control for turn 6. Unfortunately for him, he then got swallowed up by the pack through turns 7 and 8 and dropped well back to 8th after they crossed the line. Solomon took full advantage of this and drove himself up to 2nd after a lovely move round the outside. Leo Edger decided he wanted to be the star in the opening laps pulling out a large lead on Solomon lap after lap and securing what we all thought would be an easy win but on lap 9 he spun completely on his own after going to hard into a corner, allowing Solomon to catch up and then on the next lap take the lead away from him. With Solomon's championship rival Oliver Bush in 8th at this point it was all looking Rosey for Solomon.Ellis was trying his best to make sure he moved his way up the field and did get back up to 5th but after Harry Pickles spun at turn 6, Ellis could not avoid the incident and dropped himself back down to 8th. The battle for 3d was very intense the whole race. Ollie Peters and David Szucs-Farkas were in a race all by themselves but it was so entertaining to watch from race control. It seemed like from lights out these two drivers were bumper to bumper or side by side through every corner of the track lap after lap, just like the had been all championship long. By lap 21 it seemed that Leo had managed to hold off Solomon for p2 until suddenly Solomon put his foot down and was right on the back of Leo once again. As we came into the last lap they were centimetres apart then on turn 5 Solomon made his move and burst down the inside and made the move stick showing wonderful braking control. He held the lead through tunrn 7 and 8 and took the win across the line. This was huge for the championship as it out him on equal points with Oliver Bush as he finished in 5th but as Solomon with the win today had more victories across the season he took 2nd place in the championship. Ellis came home in 8th but this was enough to secure his championship win. The battle for 3rd raged on for the whole race but it was Ollie Peters that took the final podium spot just centimetres in front across the line.
To sum up an incredible season of Junior Sprint League here at Daytona Sandown Park, Ellis McKenzie was your champion after dominating the season. Lets not forget round 6 as he finished over 25 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Solomon Adeniji had a very consistent season scoring 3 podiums across 7 rounds and a 4th as well. Our final podium position for the championship went to Oliver Bush who picked up a podium and some other decent results through the 7 rounds to secure him his spot on the podium.
